Disturbing scars on the body surface may take shape as a result of previous operation, injury
or an accident cause many times “only” aesthetic, as well as health problems in single
cases.
Mainly scars, which are located on places that cannot be covered by cloth, or mean
functional obstacles or they are painful, accompany significant suffering.
Scars can be corrected with surgical procedure in many cases, can be done esthetically more
beautiful and functionally less disturbing.
For whom we recommend
We recommend scar revision by surgery for those who have scars on their body surface took shape by some reason (operation, accident, etc.) that is healing esthetically badly or causing functional problems (for example in body curves) in single cases.
Before a scar revision
During the first meeting you talk over with the plastic surgeon which scar you would like to
make more beautiful, when and how it has taken shape (due to operation or accident,
etc.).
Scars are changing gradually, fainting in the next 1 year after their formation. They are
fainting so if it is a new scar it can happen that the plastic surgeon do not recommend
operation but creams that help scarring.
Regarding the outcome of the operation it is important for the plastic surgeon to see how
the other scars have healed on your body and if you have disposition for keloid scar (keloid
scars: bigger sized, purple – red colored, often burning, itchy scars that are growing
beyond the skin).
Unfortunately it is not advisable to remove these scars by surgery as there is a danger that
it would heal in a keloid way again and it gets bigger that the original scar that has been
wanted to be corrected. Keloid scars would rather be cured not by surgery (creams for scars,
plasters, steroid injections, dermo-jet, etc.).
The plastic surgeon explains in details the technique of surgery as well as what result you
can expect and to what you have to pay attention after scar revision.
What happens during a scar revision?
We perform the scar revision under local anesthesia in almost all the cases requiring around 30 minutes. We place special bandage on the wound after the operation and you have to protect the wound from water in the following two weeks.
After a scar revision
The stitches will be removed 2 – 3 weeks after the intervention and we prescribe special creams for you that help scarring. Avoid exposing the operated field to intensive sunshine as it worsens the esthetical wound recovery. If your plastic surgeon considers it necessary he can recommend you special injection treatment for the even more perfect result.
